P.M. Skincare Routine | Beauty Review
Earlier this week I posted my morning skincare routine so here is my nighttime routine. This tends to be less product heavy but will pack more of a punch. Like with the A.M. I play around with my products but these are my current favourites. So let's get right in to it.
I like to start with a good double cleanse, which is basically washing your face twice. I like to start with an oil or balm as I feel like they break down makeup and dirt the best. For oils, Bare Minerals Oil Obsessed, The Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil and Una Brennan Superfacialist Vitamin C+ Skin Renew Cleansing Oil are all fantastic options that remove makeup brilliantly and leave your skin silky soft. As for balms, No7 Cleansing Balm and The Body Shop Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter are both amazing picks but I'll fight for Clinque Take The Day Off Balm as the world's best cleanser any day. You need a teeny bit of product and it removes everything in the world, including face paint and fake blood.
The second cleanse is all about cleaning your skin. I use milks, creams or gels for this and will massage the product in for about a minute or so. Some of my ride or dies are Bare Minerals Pure Plush, Urban Veda Daily Purifying Facial Wash, Soap And Glory 3-IN-1 Daily Vitamin C Facial Wash but Penneys and Alex Steinherr's Low-pH Sulphate Free Cleanser is my favourite of the bunch. It's lovely gel cleanser and it feels gentle on my skin after a long day of makeup but still cleans my skin thoroughly. Did I mention it's only a fiver? Fantastic!
Two to three times a week, I'll use an acid toner. My acid of choice is glycolic acid, an Alpha Hydroxy Acid or AHA for short. AHA's exfoliate skin and stimulate collagen production but can cause skin sensitivity. I haven't used a huge amount of acid toners. The Ordinary 7% Glycolic Acid, Pixi Glow Tonic, Nip+Fab Fix Pads, all of which did the job but one takes the cake for me. Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix Liquid Glow 6% exfoliates my skin wonderfully, unclogs my pore due to the salicylic acid and thanks to the hylaruonic acid and vitamin B5 keeps my skin hydrated. Can't recommend this enough.
Now once or twice a month I like to use a physical exfoliate. I don't like to use scrubs too often as they can be too abrasive but sometimes I feel my skin needs the extra oomph. Urban Veda Purifying Exfoliating Facial Polish is so good, it deeply cleans my pores but doesn't aggravate my skin. It also doesn't contain microbeads which is always a plus. Just a quick note: I don't EVER use an acid toner the same night I use a scrub, that's way too much for the skin to handle.
Depending on the night I finish up with one of two things. First off, a facial oil. I love using oils, my skin feels so deeply hydrated and looks so plump, healthy and glowy. My smile lines and under eye lines look are less noticeable. Seals moisturizer in nicely too but I tend to skip that personally. The only downside? Use every night is too much for my face. My skin just can't handle it and starts getting a little clogged. Urban Veda do my favourite one, Purifying Facial Oil, does all the lovely hydrating things and calms down my redness. Makes for a very happy Lorraine.
The other option is an overnight mask. I tend to do my routine a little earlier, maybe a half hour or so, because I find masks take longer to soak in. My skin tends to look extra bouncy after a nice hydrating mask. I started using the No7 Beautiful Skin Mask but I just found out this range has been discontinued. If you can still find it, this is a lovely mask. So deeply moisturizing and it feels so light and refreshing on the skin.
And there we go. That's the nighttime routine covered. Since I didn't go into huge detail on the products on this or the morning routine post, let me know if you want a full post on any of these products. And what's your favourite nighttime product? Let me know.
