A.M. Skincare Routine | Beauty Review

I'm not a morning person at all. I much rather stay up late working then do it in the early hours. The thought of 8am shifts makes me shudder. One of things that helps drag me out of bed though is the thought of my skincare routine. I love the thought of my skin being prepped for the day and sometimes a good face wash will brighten my morning. The products I use change a fair bit but I've been using these products for quite a while. I have normal skin with patches of dehydration and this routine has been working well for me.

I always start with washing my face. I always have at least three cleanser options on the go but I always come back to the Urban Veda Daily Purifying Facial Wash to wake me up. A light gel with witch hazel and eucalyptus, my skin feels fresh and awake anytime I use this. I nearly always use a gel or milk in the morning as I feel they prep my skin for makeup nicely.

I usually like a hydrating toner in the morning to help counteract the ol' dehydration and Pixi Rose Tonic ticks all the boxes for me. My skin feels soft, hydrated and it adds a slight healthy glow. The rose smell isn't overwhelming but it's definitely there. I like it but I know rose scent is a common hate so keep it in mind. If you like a spray toner, La Roche-Posay Serozinc is a great option.

Now for this serum booster, which is basically an extra shot of a certain ingredient. Vichy Mineral 89 is a beautiful product, packed full of hyaluronic acid and mineral water , it plumps your skin up almost instantly. It feels like a watery gel and dries in super quick. I whack this stuff all over my face, eyes, lips, everywhere. I get wind burnt on my lips a lot and this stuff heals it up in about two days.

Next up is serum, which hydrates the lower levels of the skin. I find this to be so important and I would recommend spending the most on this step. Right now I'm using No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Advanced Serum, a silicone based serum and it's grand but I don't think I'll repurchase it. Like my skin feels soft and looks nice but I don't notice much in the long term from it. I like it, just not my favourite.

Everyone's favourite, moisturizer. Serum is for the lower levels, moisturizer looks after the top layers, hence the effect is more immediately noticeable. I also feel like it seals all the previous steps in. No7 Beautiful Skin Day Cream for Normal / Dry Skin (Mouthful much?) is current go to. I like a nice thick cream in the colder months, keeps my eczema in check. I usually switch to something lighter in the summer.

Eye cream, you either love it or never think about it. My eyes get really puffy and sore if I put regular moisturizer, serums or oils near them so I swear by an eye cream. I don't look for much from eye cream, at twenty-one I just want hydration. Give me ten years, I'll want peptides and collagen but not not. An Vichy pick, the Idealia Anti-Fatigue Eye Cream does the job wonderfully. Lovely hydration and it does brighten the eye area which is nice for days where I haven't slept.

Next lip balm. As previously mentioned, the lips give me a lot of trouble. Wind burn, cracking, bleeding, they screw me over quite a bit. As a rule, I never use petroleum on my lips, it forms a layer over your lips which can sooth them but doesn't sink and moisturize them so doesn't help in the long term. Lanolips, the original and lemonade versions, are  my current favourites. They feel like proper thick, heavy balms and I love it. The second I pop these on it's immediate relief. I admit these are pricey, I find them worth it but if you want an affordable option Burt's Bee are fab too.

And lastly, a good facial mist. I use a, say it with me, a hydrating one. I use this at the end of my routine and through out the day if I need an extra hit of moisture. There's so many mists I love, Pixi do my favourite ones. The Hydrating Milky Mist is full of hyaluronic acid and feels really nice on the skin. I'm using Rose Glow Mist right now and oh, it's so good. Hydrating and has a lovely subtle glow to the skin. The Body Shop has a dupe for this which I also own and it's less hydrating with even more glow. Pick your poison, go mad.

I'm out of SPF at the moment but since it's not very sunny and I'm rarely outside, I get my SPF from my makeup until I pick up a new new one. I do highly recommend using a SPF though, the sun is our worst enemy when it comes to our skin!

And there we have it, my AM skincare routine. Is it a lot? Maybe but I love it and with all the makeup and SFX I do I feel like my skin needs the daily treat. Stay tuned for my PM routine which will be up Friday. Let me know, what's your favourite skincare product? And do you use anything I've mentioned?

  1. Would it not affect your skin if you often stay up too late at night? I don't know much about skin care stuff. I just mostly use the most basic face wash or whatnot but I've read a few articles and been told that having a good rest is a key to a clear skin.

    1. It's not great but I've never been a good sleeper and my job means I work late nights so I just try to keep up routine to counteract it.

    2. I see. Thanks.
I do completely understand the "never a good sleeper" part though. xD
